Some of the best advice I received when I was entering university was to build a community both in and out of the classroom and make sure that I was taking advantage of all the wonderful and amazing extra-curricular activities UAlberta has to offer. Here are just some of the great opportunities to make the most of your time at UAlberta:

Take your course work outside of the classroom and make a difference in the community.

Students in the UAlberta Community Service Learning Program work with community organizations as part of their studies, combining class time with real-world experiences, helping them to stand apart from other graduates in their field. There are also many volunteer and paid work opportunities available for UAlberta students.

Join a Club

UAlberta has 400+ active student groups on campus, including cultural, recreational, political, and academic clubs. There is bound to be one that interests you! You’ll meet new friends, learn new skills, and share and explore your interests .
Visit the International Centre at UAlberta! The “IC” offers advice and support, and also organizes great social events throughout the year.

Take advantage of professional grants

Here at UAlberta, students are lucky enough to have access to the UAlberta Green and Gold Professional Development Grant which gives students the opportunity to access funds that to support professional development opportunities. I applied and received a grant that paid for my trip to a business sustainability conference in Montreal! It was one of the highlights of my University career.

Remember: your classes will provide you with a world-class education, but it’s also your interests and activities outside of class that can offer you the best aspects of student life and prepare you for career success: the chance to make new friends, develop new talents, and grow both personally and professionally. www.studyincanada.ualberta.ca
